The Agence France-Presse (AFP) is the oldest news agency in the world and one of the largest alongside with Reuters, Associated Press and EFE.
The agency was founded in 1835 by a Parisian translator and publicist, Charles-Louis Havas, as Agence Havas. Two of its employees, Paul Reuter and Bernhard Wolff, then set up rival news agencies in London and Berlin respectively.
